Mercato: Fulham reapproach Manchester United for McTominay

Fulham will make a renewed attempt to sign Scott McTominay from Manchester United once they wrap up a deal for Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe, a report has claimed.

Smith Rowe is closing in on a move to Craven Cottage, with the Whites paying a fee which could reach £35m if all add-ons are met.

The 24-year-old will become Fulham’s second signing of the summer following on from Ryan Sessegnon’s return to the club from Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer, and they have cash to spend after selling Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich for an initial £42.3m.

According to Sky Sports, Fulham want United midfielder McTominay as their third summer incoming. They failed in their attempts to bring in the Scotland international last year and had been linked with a fresh move in recent months.

United could be open to shifting McTominay in order to free up room for midfield reinforcements.

They remain in an ‘open dialogue’ with Paris Saint-Germain over Uruguay star Manuel Ugarte, while Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana are also on their shortlist.

Erik ten Hag’s side are still deliberating over whether to bring Sofyan Amrabat back to the club after spending the 2023/24 season on loan at Old Trafford from Fiorentina.

United have had a busy summer so far, freshening up their squad with the additions of Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee and Lille defender Leny Yoro.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are preparing to sign a new midfielder after granting Smith Rowe permission to leave.

90min understands they will ramp up their interest in Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino in the coming days following on from their first summer signing – Bologna and Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori.
