The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) sacked Serbian coach Milutin Sredojević (Micho) the coach of the Libyan national team on Thursday evening, following the Mediterranean Knights’ draw with Rwanda in Tripoli, and the loss of its last match against Benin in the first two rounds of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Morocco next year.
The Libyan national team’s stumbling start in the AFCON qualifiers hastened the sacking of Micho, despite the fact that the team has two important matches next October against Nigeria: the first leg in Nigeria and the second leg in Libya.
After the first two rounds in AFCON qualifiers, the Libyan national team is at the bottom of Group Four with only one point, which makes it very difficult to qualify for AFCON.
Although Micho led the Libyan national team to win nine matches since taking over the Mediterranean Knights in October of last year, he failed to build a strong team due to his poor choices.
He also took a risk with the footballers chosen in the AFCON qualifiers, and the result was shocking to the Libyan sports audience.
According to sources close to the Libyan Football Federation, there is a strong tendency to sign a national coach to lead the Libyan team during the remaining qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations.
