Hezbollah blames Israel for Lebanon pager blasts – THEUPDATE

Hezbollah blames Israel for Lebanon pager blasts

Hezbollah has promised to continue “its blessed operations to support Gaza, its people, and its resistance”, despite the pager explosions that killed at least nine people and wounded 2,750 others across Lebanon and Syria.

The Lebanese armed group said it holds Israel “fully responsible” for the attacks that left at least 200 people in critical condition. Israel has declined to comment on the detonations.

In the Gaza Strip, at least eight Palestinians were killed and 80 more were feared dead under the rubble following an Israeli attack on the Bureij refugee camp.

Medics said at least 22 people were killed in Israeli attacks across the enclave on Tuesday.

At least 41,252 people have been killed and 95,497 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. In Israel, the number of those killed in the Hamas-led attacks on October 7 was at least 1,139 while more than 200 people were taken captive.

  • Pager explosion in Lebanon ‘requires investigation’: Russia

The mass detonation of pagers in Lebanon requires investigation and international attention to the topic, Maria Zakharova, Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson said in a post on Telegram.

  • Palestinian health ministry condemns death of Gaza doctor while in Israeli prison

The Palestinian Ministry of Health denounced the death of Dr Ziad Muhammad Al-Dalu in Israeli prison, detained while he was working in Gaza’s al-Shifa Medical Complex, the ministry said in a statement.

“The Ministry condemns this heinous crime against Palestinian medical staff, and considers targeting health cadres while performing their humanitarian duty a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and all international conventions,” its statement read.

Al-Dalu was detained by Israeli forces on March 18, according to the health ministry.

“The continuation of these violations against health workers is a systematic targeting of the Palestinian people and their institutions, and the Ministry stresses the need to hold the [Israeli] occupation accountable before the international community for its crimes against medical staff and civilians.”

Israel has killed more than 500 Palestinian medical staff in Gaza since it launched its devastating war last October.

  • Iran says reports about Lebanon envoy’s vision are false

The statement from Iran’s embassy in Lebanon came after the New York Times reported that Amani had lost one eye and is severely injured in the other following yesterday’s pager explosions.

“The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lebanon informs our dear compatriots and the media that the treatment process of Mr. Amani, the esteemed ambassador, is progressing well and that the rumors about Mr. Amani’s physical condition and vision are false,” the diplomatic mission said in a post on X.

  • Taiwanese firm says pagers that exploded were made by BAC Consulting

We earlier reported that Gold Apollo, the Taiwanese manufacturer of the pagers linked to the deadly explosions in Lebanon and Syria, said the pagers were made by European firm BAC.

In another statement today, the Taiwanese company said the pagers were manufactured by BAC Consulting KFT, based in Hungary’s capital Budapest.

“According to the cooperation agreement, we authorise BAC to use our brand trademark for product sales in designated regions, but the design and manufacturing of the products are solely the responsibility of BAC,” the statement read.

Gold Apollo chair Hsu Ching-kuang and other Gold Apollo representatives did not disclose more details about BAC at a press briefing and did not show any proof of the organisations’ agreement, the Associated Press news agency reported.

According to the agency, when Hsu was pressed for more information on BAC, he became quiet and left. (Aljazeera)
