Harry Kane has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent 900 goal milestone ‘inspires’ him to ‘play for as long as possible.’
The Three Lions captain is set to pick up his 100th cap on Tuesday during England’s Nations League clash with Finland at Wembley.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man made his senior debut back in 2015 and has since played in a World Cup semi-final as well as two Euros finals.
Despite his roaring success in front of goal, becoming the highest goalscorer in his nation’s history, Kane is still yet to lift a trophy for either his club or country.
But, the Bayern Munich striker is keen to put an end to his trophy doubt, revealing his determination to succeed with England – taking inspiration from Ronaldo, who netted milestone 900th and 901st career goals while on international duty this past week.
“I feel in really good shape, both physically and mentally, at a peak in my career,” he told reporters ahead of the Finland clash.
“Watching other players, [Cristiano] Ronaldo scoring his 901st goal, seeing him compete at 39 years old inspires me to play for as long as possible.
“I love this game, I love representing England – more than anything and I don’t want it to end any time soon. For me, personally, now it’s about continuing to improve and being consistent both in an England shirt and at club level.
“I’m hungry for more. I’m determined to keep pushing the boundaries.”
Kane also opened up on his feelings ahead of collecting his 100th England cap. “It is really special,” he continued. “I always say it is sometimes hard to sink in when you are playing.
“I spoke previously about that with the goalscoring record, but this one I am extremely proud of.
“It is something I am really excited for, my family will be there to enjoy the moment as well and it is a moment I am sure when I am retired I will look back on.”
England will host Finland at Wembley this Tuesday before the end of the international break.
