Barcelona have announced that talented youngster Lamine Yamal has signed a new contract with the club running until 2026.

Yamal has taken Europe by storm this season, establishing himself as a regular in Xavi’s first-team setup at the age of 16.

At the back end of the 2022/23 campaign, Yamal became Barcelona’s youngest ever player to feature in competitive competition when he made his La Liga debut aged 15 years, nine months and 16 days.

He recently became Spain’s youngest senior debutant and scorer after coming off the bench to find the net in a Euro 2024 qualifying win at Georgia.

Yamal has proven to be one of Barca’s most promising players so far this season, grabbing two assists in eight La Liga games thus far.

And Barcelona confirmed on Monday that Yamal will be staying in Catalonia, penning a new contract with a €1bn release clause.

A club statement read: “FC Barcelona and Lamine Yamal have reached an agreement on a new contract binding the player to the club until 30 June 2026, with the buyout clause set at one billion euros.

“The forward put pen to paper this Monday morning at an event in the offices at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper attended by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta; first vice-president Rafa Yuste; the director responsible for youth football, Joan Soler, and the director of sport, Anderson Luis de Souza ‘Deco’.

“The deal ensures that the youngsters will be staying at Barca, the club he has belonged to since the age of seven, when he joined from CF La Torreta.”

As Yamal is still only 16, he is only allowed to sign an extension running for another three years.
