ésiré Doué scored a brace as a brilliant Paris Saint-Germain side trounced Inter Milan 5-0 to clinch their maiden Champions League title, ending the Parisians’ long quest for the biggest prize in European football.
At long last, PSG have their hands on the big one.
It’s taken billion of euros, the buying and selling of many of the biggest names in football, and a series of notorious Champions League fiascos along the way, but Paris Saint-Germain are now the undisputed champions of Europe – and deserving ones too.
Thank you fo following this liveblog and stay with FRANCE 24 for more coverage of PSG’s celebrations tonight, tomorrow and in days to come.
- Doué named Player of the Match
Désiré Doué has been deservedly named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance, which included two goals and an assist for Hakimi’s opener.
“I don’t have the words. Thanks to the Parc (des Princes, PSG’s home stadium), thanks Paris. A dream has become reality. It’s just magnificent. It’s crazy, I’m so happy,” he told reporters on the pitch.
Incidentally, his teammate Senny Mayulu’s late goal means Doué, 19, has been knocked off the podium of the youngest players to score in a Champions League final… a place he held for just over an hour this evening.
- Macron to host victorious PSG squad
The French president will host PSG’s players on Sunday to congratulate them on their stunning Champions League win, his office has said.
In a separate message on X, Macron hailed a “day of glory for PSG”. “Bravo, we are all proud,” he wrote. “Paris is the capital of Europe tonight.”
Munich magic has struck again as Paris Saint-Germain become the fifth first-time winner of the European Cup or Champions League in the city.
“This means everything. It’s my dream, it’s our dream. It’s incredible. The result is not by magic. I’m happy we did it like this, we’re now going to celebrate,” said Portuguese midfielder Vitinha, who was one of PSG’s creative sparks.
Already French league and cup double winners, PSG are remarkably just the second ever French winners of European football’s biggest prize, 32 years after Marseille beat AC Milan in a final also played in Munich.
