Uganda’s National Team leads the standing after the third day of the Kwibuka Women’s T20 International 2023 Tournament. This tournament is being played for the Ninth Edition while Rwanda is commemorating the 29th Genocide against the Tutsi.
Uganda took this position instead of Nigeria even though the two are equal with 6 points.
They took it after winning the match against Botswana on Monday, when the third day of the international tournament was played.
The game of the tournament so far as the unbeaten sides met in the morning at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium.
The clash between Uganda and Nigeria had the top two sides facing off, Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl 1st.
Nigeria lost their captain Etim Blessing and Omonye Asika early but Esther Sandy notched up the second half century of the tournament with two big maximums and two boundaries finishing on 52.
She got support from Lucky Peit (27) as the West Africans put on the highest score of the tournament so far.
The slow bowling options of Lorna Anyait and Stephanie Nampiina were expensive conceding a total of 55 runs eight overs as Uganda were guilty of being conservative in their approach.
In the chase Proscovia Alako struck two boundaries but departed early and that slowed down the run chase as Uganda struggled to put runs on the board.
With the asking rate climbing up Stephanie Nampiina (20 not out) and Immaculate Nakisuyi (31) took matters in their own hands and that 46-run partnership made the chase comfortable in the end.
Uganda getting the result with 10 balls to spare. The win means Uganda remains the only unbeaten side in the tournament.
Nigeria also has three wins but have played a game more than Uganda.
In the afternoon the only two sides without a win in the tournament Botswana and Kenya clashed with the latter picking an easy eight wicket win.
Kenya won the toss and elected to bowl 1st a decision that was vindicated by the mean bowling of the Kenyans.
Botswana never got going through out the whole game playing a lot of dead bat and they somehow managed to get to 51.
In reply Queentor Abel (40) rode her luck with some dropped chances as Kenya stormed to their 1st victory of the tournament.
The action will continue tomorrow at the Gahanga with Uganda taking on Kenya in the morning, a fixture that was rescheduled from the opening day of the tournament.
