Two of Rwanda’s young female basketballers, Brigitte Nibishaka, 19, and Rebecca Cyuzuzo, 18, have departed for France after securing a full scholarship at the Tango Bourges Basket (TBB) Academy.
The duo left the shores of Rwanda on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, to continue their basketball development in the European Nation.
Both Brigitte Nibishaka and Rebecca Cyuzuzo, put up an impressive performance when they
represented Rwanda at the U18 Africa Basketball Championship which took place last year in September in Pretoria, South Africa.
The duo was up to the task for their country with eye-catching performances which led to their selection for a scholarship at the Tango Bourges Basket Academy.
The players were nominated by the Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) Nibishaka and Cyuzuzo to pursue academic and basketball training opportunities in France, aiming to further their skills and education.
The Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) and the Tango Bourges Basket have a good existing partnership that aims to elevate the standards of basketball in Rwanda especially the integration of Athletes and their academics as well.
The partnership focuses on capacity building for coaches and positioning Rwanda as a hub for women’s basketball development in Africa.
Nibishaka, 19, is one of the best promising basketball talents for Rwanda.
She was named MVP award for the 2024 season where she proved her worth by scoring 501 points, leading Groupe Scolaire Marie Reine de Rwaza to a fourth-place finish in the playoffs.
Cyuzuzo,18, plays as a center for the Hoops Rwanda. She was instrumental in the national team’s performance at the 2024 U18 Women’s Afrobasket.
Her contributions on and off the court demonstrated her potential to compete at higher levels.
