Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Women’s Basketball Club were crowned champions of the 2023-24 Rwanda Women’s Basketball League after defeating APR 71-63 in the best-of-seven final series.
REG proved their worth in the playoffs as they went on unbeaten to finish their campaign in style at the Petit Stade Ramera.
The Title is the club’s third and will now represent Rwanda in the 2024 Africa Women Basketball League (AWBL)-Zone 5 Qualifiers which will be held in Zanzibar from October 27 to November 2.
However, several awards were presented to deserving players at the night for their brilliant performances during the 2023-24 season.
Kristina Morgan of REG was named Most Valuable Player of the 2024 Rwanda Basketball League playoffs after playing a key role in helping REG Women lift their third championship.
The 28-year-old scored 100 points, 103 rebounds and 19 assists.
Best defender: Jane Dusabe
Jane Dusabe was named best defender of the season. She nailed 38 blocks, 343 pts, 327 Rebounds, and 155 efficient.
Best 3 points shooter: Rosine Micomyiza
For the second time in a row, Rosine Micomyiza of the Rwanda Energy Group (REG) basketball club, was named the best three-point shooter in the season after making 69 three-pointers.
Top Scorer: Brigitte Nibishaka
Brigitte Nibishaka was named the top scorer of the season. The Rwandan Star finished as the leading scorer of the regular season with 501 points.
Her outstanding performance also saw her named MVP of the regular season.
Best Coach: Xavier Byukusenge
Byukusenge won the best coach award after guiding Marie Reine to third place finish in regular season and fourth place in playoffs as well.
