Singer-songwriter and rapper Chris Brown has filed a $500 million lawsuit against Ample, LLC and Warner Bros., along with individuals involved in the production of “Chris Brown: A History of Violence.”
The lawsuit, filed in the Superior Court of Los Angeles, alleges that the documentary falsely accused Brown of heinous acts, including sexual assault and evidence tampering.
Despite being presented with evidence disproving these allegations, the documentary producers released the film on October 27, 2024.
Brown’s legal team, McCathern, Shokouhi, & Evans, argues that the film sensationalized debunked claims to drive viewership and revenue, recklessly damaging Brown’s reputation and spreading misinformation to the public.
A central figure in the documentary is Daisia Chantel Frank, identified as “Jane Doe.” Frank’s allegations against Brown were thoroughly discredited in court years ago.
Furthermore, Frank has a documented history of domestic violence, including physical assault and threats against her romantic partner.
Brown’s legal team maintains that any interactions and relationships between Brown and Frank were consensual.
This is supported by numerous text and voice messages sent by Frank to Brown, where she actively pursued a relationship with him.
Despite being fully aware of these facts, Ample, LLC and Warner Bros. chose to amplify Frank’s discredited claims, undermining journalistic integrity and disrespecting the experiences of genuine survivors of intimate partner violence.
“This case is about protecting the truth,” said Levi McCathern, Brown’s attorney.
“The producers of this documentary intentionally promoted false and defamatory information, disregarding their ethical obligations as journalists.
Their actions not only undermine Mr. Brown’s decade-long efforts to rebuild his life but also the credibility of true survivors of violence.”
Through this lawsuit, Brown seeks accountability and aims to stand against the exploitation of misinformation for personal gain.
Additionally, a portion of the $500 million will be donated to survivors of sexual abuse. Brown’s 2017 documentary, “Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life,” remains the definitive account of his experiences and growth.
