Mukisa Benjamin, Akanigi Melissa and Reggio Paol are among 12 players who were awarded after their good performance in the Golf tournament ‘CIMEGOLF’, organized by the Rwanda Cement Company ‘CIMERWA’ which was celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Played at Kigali Golf Resorts & Villas, CIMEGOLF tournament aims to bring together the customers of CIMERWA and players of the Golf, was played for its Sixth edition.
More than 60 players particiapted in the tournament, which was played on the 30th Nov, 2024.
Due to the Umuganda national community service activities, the tournament kicked off in the afternoon, each player competing over 18 holes.
Some of the players who performed well include Akanigi Melissa who became the first player among women to hit the longest driver and Mukisa Benjamin for mens who also won the tournament overall.
Reggio Paol Nearest to the Pin, was awarded as the closest to the pin.
Other players who were awarded were Karangayire Placide, Deo Kanamugire, Kaushik Pandit and Bhargav Pandit.
After the tournament, Andrew Kulayige, the Captain of Kigali Golf Club, said that they need more tournaments like this because it makes players reach the next level.
He said, “We have achieved a lot in recent years as you can see the number of golf sponsors increasing, but there is still a step to be taken in order to reach our goals.”
“That will allow us to see more and more competition than we have now.”
Akanigi Melissa, who won the competition, says that this game needs new players because there are not enough of them.
“I’m happy to won the award because its not easy. This is a game that requires time, practice and more. Those who want to know more about it, ask, not being afraid at the end, our game will become more popular.”, She added
Over the past four years, the number of goliers in Rwanda has surged trom 200 to over /00, a growth
largely attributed to initiatives like the CIMEGOLF Tournament.
Started in 1984, CIMERWA company has played a big role by contributing to built infrastructures in the country.
